Feed the dislocated

The world is facing an unprecedented challenge with communities and economies everywhere affected by the growing COVID-19 pandemic.  The impact of lockdowns is particularly severe on low-income daily wagers and unorganized migrant workers such as rag pickers, garbage cleaners, road side vendors, and transgenders.

Saxena Foundation is helping coordinate and fund various local efforts to feed this group of people during this critical phase.

“I earn 600 rupees ($8; £6.50) every day and I have five people to feed. We will run out of food in a few days. I know the risk of corona virus, but I am more worried about the risk of hunger on my family,” – Migrant Worker from Banda district UP State.

HOW IT WORKS

  • Partnering with Local NGOs

In collaboration with local civil society partners and police commissioner’s office, communities in dire need are being identified. These are families typically do not have identity documents and cannot access help being extended by the government.

  • No Cash Disbursements

No direct cash transfers will be given. Coupons for provisions worth Rs 1500/($20) are being distributed for an essential food package consisting of rice, wheat, lentils, oil, and basic condiments. It will help feed a family for 20 days

  • Encouraging Social Distancing

In order to maintain all the norms of social distancing, coupons are being made available for a weekly basic food provision kit with the nearest supermarket.

  • 1,112 Families Served Already

Our local NGO partner Prajwala have already identified and delivered food packets to over 1,112 families in Hyderabad, India from an initial donation we have made.
